(Thu 15 Nov [and Sat 17 Nov at Parlour Showrooms] / Doors 6pm; open late)
Ausform's bi-annual Performance Platform is back. This time with 7 shit hot shows. Some of them work-in-progress - 4 of them at the Cube tonight.
7pm - 'Rain' by Jack Dean
A newly extended version of Jack's show Rain:
“I realised then that the boys we were are carried forever within us, operating from behind our skull like the tiny alien in Men In Black. And though we may deny their existence, over us they will forever reign”
In the bosom of Albion, there is a boy followed by his own tiny personal cloud. As he fights with growing up and travels from the soggy fields of Devon to the tattered spires of London, Cloudy lingers over him, capturing his memories and telling him stories of the coming flood. A new quasi-autobiographical piece of work using hip hop poetics to explore three great British institutions: clinical depression, nostalgia and talking about the weather.”
8:15pm - Dance double-bill: brand new work-in-progress by Associate Artist Isabelle Cressy and Hannah Kew
... in a double-bill with ghostly, intimate dance solo piece 'Womanish' by Hayley Barker.
Hayley Barker lives in Burnham-on-sea in Somerset. She trained at Northern School of Contemporary Dance and has since been exploring character and improvisation within performance to create movement vocabulary though
site-specific, voice and text work.
9pm - 'The Last Bock' by William Bock
Artist William explores being the last in the family line though painting, live performance and a journey took him across Europe.
Dramaturg: Caroline Williams
Music: Ed Dowie
The Last Bock is a one man show devised by visual artist William Bock in collaboration with Caroline Williams (dramaturg) and Ed Dowie (Musician). The show is inspired by the artist's project of the same name which explores Bock's genealogical findings through painting, storytelling and sound. The project took him on a journey to Germany, Sweden, Mexico and Israel to meet his remaining relatives and to sit and paint as many of them as possible. For the artist, this work highlighted his feelings about being a gay man and also being the last in the Bock's family line. The work embodies the universal concerns of loss, belonging and our unavoidable and yet often neglected connection with our past, lineage and heritage. This showing is an ambitious work-in-progress.
