(Sun 8th - Wed 11th July / 8pm / £5 /4/3 TTT)
(Wes Anderson / USA / 2012 / 94 minutes / Cert. 12A)
Based around a pair of sweet young lovers - one absconding from the local scouts and the other from a dysfunctional family. Sam (Jared Gilman) is an orphan and unpopular with his fellow scout troop, while Suzy (Kara Hayward) lives in a lighthouse with three younger brothers and two lawyer parents (Bill Murray and Frances McDormand). A local search party, including the local scout troop led by troop leader Edward Norton, fan out to find them. Surprisingly opening up for Cannes this year, Wes Anderson’s first film since The Fantastic Mr. Fox, doesn’t break any Andersonian boundaries which will come as a relief to the legions of Wes Anderson fans that have been counting down the weeks to this release. Written jointly with fellow retro adoring Roman Coppola and shot purely on Super 16 film. With a cast of the usual suspects including the Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman, some unusual additions - Bruce Willis as the Island Police chief and Tilda Swinton as the stern Social Services maiden - add to the film’s charm. Expect some first love memories to be triggered in this twee comedy retro romance.
