The Ethiopian highland town of Bekoji has produced some of the world's greatest distance athletes, including Tirunesh Dibaba, Kenenisa Bekele, Fatuma Roba, the first African woman to win an Olympic Marathon in 1996 and Derartu Tulu, a double Olympic champion.
Filmed over a period of three years, this documentary follows the highs and lows of two girls, young athletes as they train, dream and struggle in hope to emulate their local heroes and compete on the world’s stage. Comic and charming, beautifully filmed and intimate this film also offers a glimpse of the everyday life of the small Ethiopian town, as economic reality and global infrastructure change.
