What would three average teenage boys do if they suddenly developed supernatural powers? Save people from burning buildings? Prevent traffic accidents? Maybe, but not before they had some juvenile fun first. With a meagre budget and unknown first-time actors, director Josh Trank has created a funny, thrilling, thought-provoking film with great use of CGI and a clever script. A refreshing addition to the tired genre of superhero films, Chronicle works so well because the characters talk and behave with a realism that serves to heighten both the comedy and the thrills.
