Miranda July again writes, directs, and stars in this follow-up to 2005's equally quirky 'Me And You And Everyone We Know'.

She and Hamish Linklater play a self-absorbed couple, mired in their
thirty-something inertia. Upon finding out one day that the wounded cat they're hoping to adopt won't be able to come home with them for a month, and realising that they'll probably then be stuck with this impending responsibility until they're forty (-gasp!...), they're suddenly thrown into an existential panic. They decide that for the remaining month they'll surrender themselves to the fate of their spontaneity, for what they worry might be the last opportunity of their lives...

Undeniably whimsical, yet not afraid to look into the darkness, 'The Future' incorporates elements of magical realism (-Cats can talk! -Time can be stopped! -The moon doesn't have all the answers!!...) to ponder the weighty themes of commitment, time, and love.
