(Sunday 1st @ 8pm; Wed 2nd @ 11am (babycinema) / £5/4)
(Mathieu Amalric / France / 2010 / 111 minutes / subtitled)
You might recognise director and lead of Tournee, Mathieu Amalric as Jean- Dominique Bauby of the Diving Bell and the Butterfly (or even the baddie Dominic Greene in Quantum of Solace). Tournee won him best director at Cannes last year. He plays Joaqin Zand, an ex-TV producer who puts together a burlesque show to road-trip around provincial France. The strip-tease showgirls are real-life American performers and much of the genuine playfulness of the film comes from a study of their lives backstage and downtime mini-
adventures with improvised script, which gives the film a part-documentary feel. Meanwhile Joaqin tries to put his life in order and get the girls to the finale in Paris...
We will be screening a 15 minute short, introduced by director, Sheridan Lunt before the main feature and small Q & A:
Life and Times: A silent film staring Virtuoso Circus Man Christopher
Anaspitos (Invisible Circus), which follows the story of a down-and-out street performer and his search for a glamorous stage actress. Inspired by the old masters Burton and Chaplin.
