The Coen brothers are back on more epic ground (after A Serious Man) with their rendition of the Charles Portis novel originally adapted into a John Wayne film in 1969.
Oscar winner Jeff Bridges takes the lead as Marshall Cogburn, the grizzly US Marshal enlisted by a young girl Mattie (Hailee Steinfeld) to find the man who murdered her father (Josh Brolin).
They are joined by a Texas ranger La Boeuf (Matt Damon), to head out together on a dangerous manhunt to find a murderous outlaw, in a land where everything is unknown except that it is merciless and lawless...
They didn't call it the Wild West for nothing.
The vision is dark and dusty, but not without a playful side.
