Amer is a true homage to Italian Giallo thrillers of the 1970s complete with all of the lurid colour, odd camera angles, tight close-ups, overwrought emotions and recycled scores that you could hope for. Like anything that has been given such attention to detail, it is a true genre film and worth a view.
The film focuses on three key sensual moments during Ana's childhood, puberty and adult life set against the oppressive backdrop of an imposing family home which characterises her sexual repression. A sense of unease slowly builds to an erotically charged and disquietening finale where the line between reality and fantasy becomes blurred... (naturally)
