Dreamy, languid, and beautifully shot, I Am Love observes the cultivated world of a wealthy and distinguished industrial Italian family, the Recchis, on the verge of change. It is a film of ritual and order, modern life meeting quiet generational class, all centred on a massive Milanese mansion that represents the power and stature of the family.
As the servants glide the elegant staircases delivering exquisite dishes, the birthday of its patriarch, is the setting for an unsettling chain of events, and a change in power. He prepares to pass on the family business to his son and grandson, but in doing so causes ripples of passion beneath the controlled veneer of family politics.
