Jane Campion's moving and beautiful drama evoking Keats's romance with Fanny Brawne in the final years of his life. The romantic young poet, unrecognised and penniless, is in no position to ask for a girl's hand but their love is so strong that it seems nothing will come between them. The film is unashamedly romantic but the unstuffy dialogue prevents it from being mawkish. Ben Whishaw and Abbie Cornish are brilliant in the lead roles and Campion's dreamy photography transports us to another time.
