Charlie Parr is the real deal. The honest sound of the American folk tradition, Charlie plays traditional and original songs with a raw voice, fingerpicked resonator guitar, and the spine-tingling fire of a Gary Davis or Blind Willie Johnson. Heard everywhere from the recent Honest Jon's 'Open Strings'
compilation to the audio catalogue of National Reso-Phonic guitars, Charlie Parr's performances stand out in the recent solo guitar renaissance with their mesmerising power not borrowed from freakout rock and roll, but imported direct from the passionate, personal music of times long since lost. The Cube is honoured to have Charlie return to our stage, his thrilling set earlier this year still fresh in the mind.
Support comes from a one-two punch of local backwards/backwoods wanderers; Charlie's road buddies My Two Toms spin delicate melodies from banjo, guitar, and ukulele, suffused with the spirit of Appalachia, carrying the traditions of the most memorable music; Boxcar Aldous Huxley confound and delight presenting slanderous historical melodrama set to a riot of horns, reeds, twangs and clatter.
