Visionary Hungarian director Béla Tarr's (Werckmeister Harmonies, Sátántangó) latest film is a film noir thriller. The Man from London is an adaptation of a crime novel by Georges Simenon, and sees Tarr's notoriously slow-roving camera- eye taking in the murder and money intrigue of a dark, unspecified port city. The story follows the fate of Maloin (Miroslav Krobot), and the consequences on this lonely, married railway pointsman of discovering and appropriating a stash of stolen cash after witnessing a violent crime in the shadows of a dark night.
