Back in the late ‘80s, Randy “The Ram” Robinson (Mickey Rourke) was a headlining professional wrestler. Now, twenty years later and way past his prime, he gets by performing for wrestling fans in high school gyms and community centres. In the cold reality of being a has-been, Randy faces coming to terms with working in a store, building a relationship with the daughter he abandoned, and taking a romantic relationship with Cassidy (Marisa Tomei) to a deeper level. All this as the tension mounts and he prepares to get match fit and face his old rival and 1980s arch-nemesis in the ring. Both O'Rourke and Tomei were Oscar nominees for best lead actor and supporting actress, and O'Rourke won a BAFTA for his performance.
