(Bela Tarr / 1994 / Hungary/Germany/Switzerland / 450 mins / cert 15)

A rare opportunity to see Bela Tarr's masterpiece on the big screen. The story is located on a collective farm in Hungary at the end of Communism. The farm has collapsed and the workers are wanting to collect the money owed them and leave. But the return of the charming Irimias, who has been missing presumed dead, changes their plans and creates an atmosphere of mistrust. Mesmerising long shots and a seven hour running time reflect Tarr's uncompromising vision, and those willing to accept a shift in the normal way of viewing films will be richly rewarded.
