In the early 1960s a group of left-wing radicals lead by Ulrike Meinhof and Andreas Baader were lighting fires in department stores to protest against consumerism. By the late 1970s however, these wholesome activities had descended into kidnappings, bombings and shootings and the Red Army Faction were rocking the very foundations of the yet fragile German democracy. This film, based on Stefan Aust's best-selling non-fiction book, takes an unglamorous look at this period of Germany's history, the gang members and the cop who hunted them down.
