Part of 'Cube X' series

This will be a night to treasure, as a 35mm Cube Cinema cult movie classic (not the computer game) gets the once over from one of the UK's most adventurous beat-box artists and his quick tongued music comedian brother. A live re-voicing / re-score of Walter Hill's terrific pulp action movie.

'The Warriors' just oozes cool. In 1979 it was panned for being “exploitative and superficial” but is now regarded as "cinematic rock n roll" and has resonated strongly with Hip Hop culture. Comic book in style, it has killer sound-bites, gritty fight sequences, street (a)morals, eye-catching subway trains, graffiti-styled credits and a whole range of colourfully dressed gangs. Based on a story of courage about a group of ancient Greek soldiers trying to find their way home while stranded deep within the Persian Empire, the movie is about an epic journey through New York, made by a youth gang fighting their way back home (from other gangs, the cops etc) after being framed for the
assassination of a gang leader.

Baffling, boundary pushing beat-boxer Beardyman is a curveball specialist. Well known as a performer who has human beat-box skills mixed with musical genius and humorous conceptual daring. He utilizes cutting-edge sound-mangling technology to create pulse-racing rhythms, breath-taking soundscapes, fully whacked-out sketches and tunes. Beardyman not only shares stages with Jazzy Jeff, Skinnyman, Groove Armada, Wordsmith and Phi-Life Cypher, but appears on all kinds of platforms producing vocal constructions and comic characters out of nowhere. He will be joined for this exclusive show by his brother, the comic Jay Foreman, who famously penned 'Moon Chavs'.

Both artists will be doing solo spots warming up the crowd before the vocal 'n' loops 'n' tricks foley rescore of The Warriors.

"Waaaaarrrriooorrs.................come out to play.....Beardyman.....come out to play......Jay Foreman....come out to play.....Warrriooors......come out to play-ay"

The Cube Microplex is 10 Years in the making this month. 'Cube X' events celebrate this.

NOTE: For CUBE X events, Cube Volunteers are requested to bring a gift (probably food for artists and us) to The Cube in lieu of a ticket: a wedding style gift list is in the office to choose from.
