For over 15 years Beatnik Filmstars have been making albums and travelling the world, playing their own unique Lo-Fi/Americana pop music to a loyal fanbase. They recorded five John Peel sessions, have toured in the USA with bands like Flaming Lips, Pavement and Guided By Voices, and released more albums than you can count on the fingers of two hands. With their new album ‘The Purple Fez 72 Club Social’ (released Nov 3rd) the Americana influence has become stronger, with country-tinged guitars, Hammond organs, accordions and harmonicas leading the way, while the poppier elements have been laid to rest. The tunes are still as wonderful as ever, and lyrically the humour is still there, although with a darker overall feel. There are songs here that you could imagine someone like Will Oldham covering. Hints of Lambchop (whose Kurt Wagner is a fan) and Silver Jews.

In the words of US CMJ Magazine "Beatnik Filmstars, still one of the UK's best exports"
