"Word Wars" is the acclaimed documentary about competitive scrabble players in the darling US of A. We follow four of the game's highest-ranked players Edley, Sherman, Graham and Hill in their obsessive preparations and training for the 2002 National Scrabble Championship in San Diego, where the top prize was $25,000 and an appearance on the Today Show. It might be about words but the competition is as fierce and aggressive as any sport and makes compulsive watching.
The movie won "Best Documentary" at the Sedona (Arizona) Film Festival in March 2004, and the "Audience Award" at the Full Frame Documentary Festival (Durham, North Carolina) in April 2004.
Here at the Cube we are partial to some scrabbulous word wars of our own so after the movie pit your wits and words with other scrabble-heads as we unroll our own scrabble boards and crack open the dictionary.
Bring down a scrabble set and lets go.
