This Blaxplotation classic of one woman's revenge for the death of her government agent boyfriend transformed star Pam Grier into a 70s icon of Miss Black America. Depite the 'brown sugar and spice' aggrandising of the film's original tagline, Hill's film is a serious analysis of race and gender issues that turned out to be blue-touchpaper on release.
