James Topple - Art Tourettes
James Topple’s work explores notions of fragmented identity in the current climate of hyper-reality. He is at once cute, offensive, whimsical, irreverent, self-abasing and self-assured, complicating the initial temptation to read his work as autobiographical.
In keeping with James’s raw aesthetic, the lounge area is hung erratically. The bar area, however, represents a new direction in the hanging of his work, and adheres more strictly to formal considerations.
This show runs concurrently with Closing Down Sale (11 April – 18 May) at the Another Roadside Attraction Gallery, London, where more of James’s work can be seen. He is also included in a group show at The Phoenix in Exeter later in the summer.
