Jonquil And Jeremy Smoking Jacket

(Tue 17th / £6/5 adv / 8pm)

Oxford’s utterly wonderful Jonquil released one of the best albums of last year, all sweeping melodies, rich harmonies and all manner of instrumental delights. Where début album, ‘Sunny Casinos’ was more the bedroom recording project of Hugo Manuel, ‘Lions’ marks their progression into a hugely accomplished multi-instrumental six-piece; taking in accordion, flute, guitars, drums, organ, melodica, trumpet, flugelhorn and all manner of esoteric noise makers.

Support comes in the shape of the return of Jeremy Smoking Jacket, a lesser spotted collaboration between Rose Kemp (One Little Indian) and SJ Esau (Anticon) who have been described as “pig-fuckingly brilliant” and a rare solo performance by cellist Chipper who you may have heard playing with North Sea Navigator, Crippled Black Phoenix, SJ Esau and many others.
