As major European film-makers go, Roy Andersson is quite a slow mover. An obsessive perfectionism that borderlines on genius has meant that in thirty years he has produced only four feature films, the latest of which,'Du Levande' (You, The Living) is a welcome addition to his tiny canon of work. Much like his last film, 'Songs From The Second Floor', the film is a series of carefully composed tableaux in which, with deadpan humour pitched perfectly between Python and Bergman, Andersson explores the absurd futility of existence. Surreal and slapstick by turns, this is world-weary pessimism at its laugh-out-loud best.
