Cronenberg returns to London once again, teaming up with screenwriter Steve Knight (Dirty Pretty Things) to reveal the capital in all its cold and grimy glory. Revolving around the story of a Russian gangster (played by Viggo Mortensen, who learned Russian specially for the role), the film scratches at the dirty politics of the big city, exposing a harrowing chain of murder, deceit, and retribution that reverberates through the darkest corners of both the family and London itself. Easily Cronenberg’s best work in over a decade.
