Purple Field Productions & Temwa Present: Banthu Ngati Ise (people Like Us) Premiere

-
Wed 23 January 2008 // 19:00

(Wed 23rd / 7pm (screenings 7.30pm & 9.00pm) / £3)

Three HIV positive people from rural northern Malawi speak about their experience of living with HIV in a country where information is scarce, and attitudes towards those infected are based on myth as much as on fact. Through their openness, honesty and enthusiasm, they talk us through the often traumatic experience of finding out about their infection, the reactions of those around them, and the lives they are living today. Most importantly, their stories show that knowing one's HIV status can enable those infected to lead happy, healthy lives.

Filmed and directed by Martin Coyne and Elsbeth Waldie; running time
30 mins; Language: Chitumbuka with English subtitles.

This event is a very momentous occasion to mark the première showing of Banthu Ngati Ise (People Like Us). Banthu Ngati Ise is the first ever
HIV/AIDS awareness film to be produced in Chitumbuka, a language spoken in Malawi and neighbouring countries, and due to this is shortly going to get aired on Malawian television. The evening is going to consist of two showings of the film as well as special open panel discussions after each screening (8.10pm & 9.40pm), featuring several special guests, to discuss issues around the fight against HIV/AIDS.
