Tonight, northern rockers Gaia grace the Cube with their unique blend of psych folk, prog and stoner rock. Quoted as being 'like Arsenal without the Thierry Henry bloke', their emotive concoction is enough to enthral anyone interested in Pink Floyd to the Happy Mondays to Nick Drake. Blending the driving bass lines of early Hawkwind, with Uriah Heep, and a touch of Dave Gilmour style electric slide guitar, Gaia are not to be missed by any fans of squally, echoing guitar solos, big choruses, and expansive, anthemic space-rock.
Bristol’s own Ashowka blend psych rock, jazz, folk, funk, and ethnic beats to innovative effect. Citing as influences ‘Bitches Brew’ era style jazz with early 70’s Rock such as Jimi Hendrix and Mahavishnu, north Indian classical, altered modal rhythm, free improvisation and noise. Having in the last year played alongside acts as diverse as 10cc, Helele, Konono Number 1, Zun Zun Egui and RSVP, Ashowka have been developing music and influences from around the world.
