There's no shortage of back story for the man behind Little Wings - Kyle Field has been a surfer, a transient living out of the back of a camper, an artist, and a member of a band with M. Ward, as well as releasing numerous records on the renowned K records. He's also collaborated with everyone from unsung lo-fi folkies from Indiana to Jason Lytle of Grandaddy.

Kyle sounds like the well travelled troubadour he is, evoking in his lyrics both a sense of weariness and a sense of blissful, almost childlike amazement at nature. Last year he completed a tour of camp sites and national parks. The lyrics are poetic and sincere but underpinned by his wry sense of humour. Though what separates him from the crowd is his voice, with the capacity the switch between a deep, sonorous, and flatly-intoned quiet authority and a falsetto full of yearning and tenderness. Rarely accompanied by anything more than an acoustic guitar or piano, Field opts for a more natural sound. The songs are full of a mixture of longing and joy, creating a melancholic atmosphere similar to the music of Thanksgiving or Beck’s Sea Change.

Support comes from San Francisco's Donovan Quinn of Skygreen Leopards fame and Bristol's My Two Toms.
