SHADY BARD
plus support from The Master Chaynjis and The Gala Band
(Fri 19th / 8pm / £6 adv)
Shady Bard are a mini-indie orchestra conjuring up symphonic alt.pop fables which chart personal and global breakups and breakdowns. Their songs are shaped by synaesthesia, a condition where two or more senses are combined automatically and involuntarily - in this case words and music appear in colours, tieing in with the lyrical content - from the dark orange of Fires to the bright yellows of Torch Song.
The Master Chaynjis are penners of fervent and seductive love/hate songs - think Anthony & The Johnsons meets Tindersticks and you're still only half way to touching on their otherworldy, timeless funeral waltzes.
The Gala Band draw on inward-looking folk and confessional storytelling, the sound like standing on the edge of the shore and looking into the murky depths below, the warm glow by the fire as the rain lashes down outside.
