BILLY CHILDISH

Two shows in one day in the company of one of the most prolific and explicit outsider artists/writers of his generation. A cult figure in America, Europe and Japan, he has published 30 collections of his poetry, recorded over 70 full-length independent LP’s and produced over 1000 paintings.

BILLY CHILDISH & THE CHATHAM SINGERS
(sat 29th / 3pm / £5)

An intimate affair with readings of poetry and prose by the man himself, portraits of a life scarred by abuse, buoyed by humour and finally redeemed by the power of art. A revelatory, moving experience. And then he picks up his guitar, for a rare blues performance backed by the Chatham Singers.

WILD BILLY CHILDISH AND THE MUSICIANS OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE
+ SPECIAL GUESTS
(sat 29th / 8pm / £9)

In the evening, Billy is joined by his latest combo, The Musicians of the British Empire. Every 5 years or so Billy Childish is sited by a current top band as the embodiment of rock 'n' roll integrity, and every 5 years or so Billy splits his group up and starts again from scratch. Continuing his tradition of home made punk and rhythm and blues. Singing odes to Joe Strummer and nodding to The Who, whilst showing the next generation what a real rock 'n' roll group sounds like.

SPECIAL COMBINED TICKET FOR BOTH SHOWS: £12
