State Sanctioned Recordings is a unique proposition, a label with no fixed boundaries coupled with an unhealthy appetite for all that is unorthodox in modern music. This first-ever showcase features live performances from a disparate assortment of international artists, all of them confounding the pigeonholes of the underground through bloody-minded experimentation and wayward improvisations.
Acclaimed improviser and composer BILL THOMPSON follows recent
collaborations with Mark Wastell and Keith Rowe with a solo set of dense, mersmeric fuzz, penetrating lulls and delicate electronic lacerations.
Firmly-established through a punishing touring schedule and staggering back catalogue of releases on European and American labels, Greek natives FAMILY BATTLE SNAKE conjure up a hazy psychedelic mayhem; from lulling numbness to fierce noise outbreaks.
Ahead of his appearance at the Portishead-curated All Tomorrow's Parties festival in December, TEAM BRICK invokes a collective catharsis from
unamplified throat singing and clapped-out, electronically-treated
instrumentation.
An alumni of fabled experimentalists The Sonic Catering Band, LESSONS
AROUND US presents a unique performance in support of his recent State Sanctioned release 'OpenAir'. Recordings made throughout the evening will be reworked live during the performance, jostling for space alongside his distinctive collage of domestic audio snapshots and pastoral melodies.
Summoning up great shards of sound from the humblest of means, EATEN BY CHILDREN invokes a storm of electrical hiss and bass-heavy feedback from a mass of wires and decrepit boxes. This performance is a live improvisation to his stream-of-consciousness Super-8 films, shot haphazardly in Hackney, Costa Rica and from deep inside the london tube system.
