This summer the cube presents a series of nights, rethinking the idea of television along its own fractured lines. Born out of a dissatisfaction with commercial scheduling, along with the new possibilities of streamed content and the corresponding desire to open oneself up in an uncontrolled way to something ‘other’. Each night will be scheduled by guest programmers, offering their unique re-imagining of the Reithian principles: inform, educate and entertain. Expect tv episodes, documentaries, short films, music videos, trailers, dvd content…
Cinema as shared social space. A new audiovisual domain is waiting to be explored, where anything goes. Producing a mindset that is open to experience in a way that home viewing can never replicate.
Liam Kirby programmes the films at the Cube, plays guitar in Bristol pop collective Arctic Circle, and makes short films about burlesque dancers and stop-motion monsters. Expect his Cube TV schedule to feature a kaleidoscope of weird Americana, wide-eyed animated curiosities and old-fashioned hokum.
