            SWEET SORROW SUNDAY: “Yes”
(sun 6th / 8pm / £4/3)
(Sally Potter 2005/100min/35mm)

‘Rhythm in Light’ presents a series of Sunday screenings exploring the beauty of melancholy and the sweetness in sorrow. Contemplative
musings on love, death, loss and isolation, these films are ultimately full of hope. DJ’s in the bar will be playing similarly bittersweet tunes.

Best known for her adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s Orlando, with “Yes” Sally Potter has produced one of the most inspired post-9/11 cinematic responses. Through the passionate love affair between an American woman (Joan Allen) and a Middle-Eastern man (Simon Abkarian) the film poses poignant ethical questions about the conflicts of our times. A wildly ambitious contemplation on race, religion and politics, with striking visuals, unconventional style, and poetic dialogue (the entirety of which is in verse) this is a hauntingly beautiful experiment.
