The collaboration that produced Ghost World returns with another cheerfully misanthropic satire, this time expanding that movie's biting art class vignettes into the setting for a full-feature. Max Minghella stars as Jerome, an Art School freshman, navigating a shallow, posturing world of wannabe Warhols – somewhere in here there's a murder mystery, but the real joy of the film is in the sharp depiction of its myriad characters, not least the slimy, embittered teacher played by John Malkovich, and Jim Broadbent's booze-sodden failed artist. Disaffected, but not letting it get you down? This one's for you.
