After a Hollywood career that has boasted as many hits (Total Recall, Robocop) as misses (Showgirls), Verhoeven returns to his native Holland to make his first Dutch language film in over 20 years – a compelling war-time drama that owes much to the films of both Sam Fuller and Jean-Pierre Melville. Based around events concerning the resistance, Carice van Houten plays Dutch Jew Rachel Steinn, who goes undercover to spy and retrieve information from Ludwig Muntze, a Nazi officer. However, she soon falls in love with Muntze and realises that there are many grey areas in war...
