When a previously unknown planet is discovered on the far side of the Sun, an international mission is sent to investigate Earth’s mysterious twin. What begins as a voyage of exploration gradually slips into something far stranger, as reality fractures and the familiar is reflected back in unsettling ways. Blending spectacular model effects, space-age design and eye-catching late-sixties style, Doppelgänger remains an eerie and inventive tale of doubles, parallel worlds and the fear that you may not be the only person living your life.
Remember Tomorrow, Cube's exploration of the lost utopias and dystopias promised by twentieth-century science fiction returns. This November, we're presenting a double bill of doubles, pairing this overlooked gem of Danish sci-fi with Gerry Anderson's first venture into live-action filmmaking after Thunderbirds; Doppelgänger (Journey to The Far Side of the Sun). This ambitious 1969 feature saw Gerry Anderson step beyond the puppet adventures that made his name to create a rare British science fiction film with high production values. Expect uncanny identities, fractured realities and futures that never quite arrived.
