Stick around after the Winter Fair for our festive film pick about an old-timey tradwife influencer who gets called on her bluff and has to host her boss for Christmas.
Barbara Stanwyck plays Elizabeth Lane, a column writer with a good gig pretending to be a bucolic domestic goddess while living off takeout from the restaurant below her Manhattan apartment, until a wartime nurse writes to Elizabeth's publisher asking that the author of 'Diary of a Housewife' host the nurse's fiancé over Christmas to give him a good taste of familial bliss. Fortunately, or unfortunately, Elizabeth's editor has a Connecticut farmhouse he's keen to share with her.
Featuring the great character actors S.Z. Sakall and Una O'Connor, this slapstick comedy subtly resists the gender norms of its day.
