Prelude to a New Horizon

7 short films by the Left Bank Collective Sunday, 8th of February At the Cube Cinema

We are very happy to present a screening of a collection of short films, followed by a conversation with the Left Bank Collective.

Officially formed in 2018 in Iran, Left Bank is an autonomous, non-affiliated cinematic collective that seeks to dismantle conventional film production methods and hierarchical educational structures by adopting a council-based framework.

Left Bank has produced and presented dozens of non-fiction films with documentary and experimental approaches. Its educational and film production workshops annually recruit members through open calls for several-month-long programs, engaging in continuous film production that is presented in public screenings.

The key principles of Left Bank include: showcasing, retrieving, and rediscovering overlooked and abandoned peaks of non-fiction cinema; rebelling against dominant and established cinematic grammar; minimizing the notion of delay in cinema; reviving collective and responsive cinema; opposing cinematic centralization and the hegemony of fiction film; eliminating hierarchies in education and production; redefining the economics of cinema; and creating no-budget and low-budget works using lightweight tools.
