Tickets: £5 (full)
Screening as part of our 'closed cinemas' season, we bring this elegiac paean to the temple-like cinemas of yesteryear, and the harsh economic realities which faced them in the age of home entertainment.
Set in near real-time, the film is set against a screening of King Hu's Dragon Inn in a Tapei, cinema due to be closed down when the screening ends. The action follows the various people threading through the cinema during this final screening, and is beautiful haunting and funny by turns. It also features a very special cameo in the final reel.
In the 2022 Sight and Sound director's poll, Tsai Ming-liang voted this film - his own - as one of the ten greatest films ever made. Do you agree with him? Come along and decide for yourself!
(We will also be screening the original Dragon Inn earlier in the day, so make sure you arrive early enough to catch both - but don't worry: neither will be the last screening at The Cube!)
Please note: we do not show adverts. There will be 10 mins or so of trailers before the main feature.
