We are thrilled to bring you the great Aki Kaurismäki's FALLEN LEAVES, his 20th full-length film, and a continuation of his Proletariat series (which we hope you managed to catch as part of our recent Kaurismäki Sundays season).
Set in modern day Helsinki, FALLEN LEAVES tells the story of Ansa (Alma Pöysti) and Holappa (Jussi Vatanen), two lonely souls whose chance meeting at a local karaoke bar is beset by numerous hurdles. From lost phone numbers to mistaken addresses, alcoholism and a charming stray dog (wonderfully played by Aki's own dog Alma), the pair’s path to happiness is as bittersweet as it is ultimately delightful.
Shot through with Kaurismäki’s typically playful, idiosyncratic style and deadpan sense of humor, with an excellent soundtrak, this tender romantic tragicomedy is both a loving tribute to the filmmaker’s beloved contemporaries and a timely reminder of the potency of movie-going from one of cinema’s living legends.
"Another gorgeous tragicomic farce from Finnish maestro Aki Kaurismäki, a heartfelt cinephile ode to the possibility of love among the working classes." Little White Lies
Please note: we do not show adverts. There will be 10 mins or so of trailers before the main feature.
