Bristol Radical Film Festival and The Cube presents:
Dir. Richard David, 2023, United Kingdom 120 mins
-
Thu 26 September // 19:00
Tickets: £5 (full)
Part of the 2024 Bristol Radical Film Festival.
The film revisits the ‘Rock Against Racism’ movement of the late 70s, noting its influence on future waves of radical artists and political activists and the late 50s organising of the ‘The Stars Campaign For Inter-Racial Friendship’ by British jazz musicians and entertainers in the wake of the 1958 Notting Hill riots. It features many renowned musicians, writers, commentators and activists including original members of Steel Pulse, Aswad, and The Sex Pistols. The film finishes with a focus on both grime music and the historic role played by Black musicians in British popular music.
The evening ends with a gig featuring local up and coming Bristol MCs and DJs.
There will be a stall from Bristol Stand Up to Racism and Love Music Hate Racism.
