'It's like 60 Minutes on acid...'

Written and directed by Talking Heads frontman David Byrne, True Stories started life as a film based on unusual articles that he had come across in tabloid newspapers - the 'true stories' of the title being a somewhat ironic comment on how far-fetched the articles often appeared to be.

Set in the fictional town of Virgil, Texas, the film follows a nameless cowboy (played by Byrne himself), whose curiosity about the town's 150th anniversary 'Celebration of Specialness' draws together numerous different story strands, featuring typically iconic performances from the likes of John Goodman and Spalding Gray.

Episodic and off-beat - like the best of 80s American indie filmmaking - the film also boasts a banging soundtrack of Talking Heads songs.  What better way to while away a Sunday afternoon?

Doors at 2pm - film at 2:30.
