For the past 15 months, TOUGH SELL have been recommending and reviewing arts events in Bristol with our small-run, DIY zine. Now we’re über excited to welcome a clutch of multi-disciplinary artists to The Cube for our inaugural event. Come for three very different performances across music, writing, live art and dance, united by the in-the-moment thrill of improvisation.

Alan Fielden + COIMS
Writer, poet and theatremaker Alan Fielden (JAMS, ROOM) presents Container, a multi-vocal performance exploring the violence and tenderness of living through catastrophe. Drawing influence from Robert Ashley’s television operas, Container makes use of overlapping choral narratives and live music to explore alternative treatments of text, voice and storytelling. Providing music for this performance are special guests COIMS, a Bristol duo conducting sonic experiments on modern percussion and fretted instruments. A one-night-only collaboration not to be missed!

Big Fuss
An ever-morphing outfit conjuring wild, no-holds-barred free improv, spearheaded by Bristol drummer Harry Irvine. Exactly what form this project will take on the 19th is yet to be seen, but it promises to be a high-octane set of primal, exuberant chaos from some of the finest players in Bristol’s vibrant improvised music scene. Or something entirely different... it’s all to play for.

Eleanor Sikorski + Lewys Holt
An improvised duet from Leeds-based dance artists Lewys Holt and Eleanor Sikorski. Mainstays of the UK experimental dance scene, Lewys and Eleanor’s work often strays into the realms of comedy, cabaret and music. Expect fleeting images, flights of fancy, comic encounters. Take note:
Empty Orchestra, Lewys’s show exploring the pains and pleasures of karaoke, tours to the Wardrobe Theatre 20th-21st September — highly recommended by TOUGH SELL!
