An abundance of delicate and divine songs, fantastic soundscapes and audio rides to other worlds.
Mi and L’au are gentle on the ear but full of romance and heartfelt lyrics all delivered in a suitable refined dramatic European style. This French/Finnish couple met in Paris a few years back, where they fell deeply and immediately in love. Now they live deep in the woods in Finland together, where they devote themselves to writing music together. Signed to Michael Gira's Young God label, their music is bare and austere with voice, acoustic guitars, and moving orchestrations. Folk-ish meditations plucked from the cool night air, warm lyrical paeans to fill your head.
Tom Brosseau was the only artist to play Venn 06 twice and now he's back again. He's a singer with songs that seem classic the moment you hear them float over you. Full of liquid, quivering Buckley and Banhart-isms as well as that total enigma star thing. Brosseau's playing elicits a hushed reverence from admiring listeners blessed with the intimacy and emotional immediacy of his live performances. What a gift.
Jonquil are from Oxford but sound like they reside in the hermetic world of a Quay Brothers film. Influenced by Joan Baez, The Microphones, Akron/Family, Swans and Stars Of The Lid, their ummer drones, creaky themes and Eastern European atmospheres make this band a unique and beguiling proposition on their Cube debut.
