AYA The London-based, Huddersfield-raised artist, Aya, has dazzled the UK underground with her experimental club productions and genre hopping DJ sets. Her exhilarating mixes showcase her unique style, which draws inspiration from her creative upbringing in West Yorkshire, where she was exposed to music production by her father during the internet explosion of the 90s.

Starting out as a drummer and joining post-punk bands in her teens, Aya's fascination with synthesis led her to develop a persona-led style of production, combining her love of abstract poetry with leftfield club experiments. With her refined skills honed as part of ‘Boygirl’ the queer DJ collective in Manchester, her approach to club music is unparalleled. Her hyper-detailed process enables her to create authentic art that centres on the transformative power of self-discovery, experience, and memory on the physical body.

Aya's talent has been recognized by the industry, having previously released music with Local Action, 2BREAL & Astral Plane Recordings. She now co-runs the label YCO and holds a 3rd year radio residency with NTS. Her knack for theatrical and technically adventurous sets has made her a rising star, and we are thrilled to welcome her to Tread.
