This is a programme of experimental film and animation that has in some way broken new ground in cinema. Wherever possible the films will be projected on 16mm. The screening will include Maya Deren’s, Meshes of the Afternoon (1943), Taka Iimura, Love Ai (1962); William Raban, Breath (1974); John Smith, Girl Chewing Gum (1976) and Alia Syed’s Fatima’s Letter (1992). Then, bringing the event into what’s happening right now in expanded cinema, BEEF members Melanie Clifford, Matt Davis and Shirley Pegna will perform a live soundtrack to Vicky Smith’s Not (a) part (2019). The screening launches BEEF's series of January talks: Exploring Experimental Film. If you are not intending to attend the series you are still welcome to come to the screening.
