Following on from their sold out show back in February, The Cube is very pleased to have Attuned, comprised of Manish, Gurdain and Jack returning to our stage with their contemporary take on classic ragas.
The link below is a little 20 minute taster of their set:
Manish Pingle is one of the world’s leading Mohan Veena players - Indian slide guitar. He is a disciple of Ustad Shahid Parvez the renowned sitar maestro.
Gurdain Rayatt is a disciple of Pandit Shankar Ghosh and is one of the UK’s leading tabla players. He has accompanied many of India’s most prestigious artists.
Jack Jennings studied the sitar with Donough Sanfay, a disciple of Amarnath Mishra. Jack has been pioneering an approach to adapt Indian classical music to the electric guitar.
This Trio takes the audience on a dynamic and exciting journey through the world of Indian Classical Music. The spontaneous interaction and passion felt when they play together is truly compelling. The music they play is essentially very pure and in keeping with tradition, but the inclusion of the electric guitar creates a sense of openness to embrace new timbres and melodic nuances without compromising the original spirit and intensity of the music. This is a rare combination of instruments and Musicians from different backgrounds, embracing the music that brought them together.
Also tonight we have Zero Gravity Tea Ceremony. A combination of quilting processes and space chamber music, this Swindon based artist is described as equal part sound-collage and song cycle: a delicate balance of indeterminacy and composition; of free improvisation and lyrical deftness; slice-of-life sentimentalism, and abstract expression.
We also have the DJ talents of Bristol's finest, John Stapleton spinning the finest exotic sounds from across the globe.
