Manish Pingle is one of the world’s leading Mohan Veena players - Indian slide guitar. He is a disciple of Ustad Shahid Parvez the renowned sitar maestro.
Gurdain Rayatt is a disciple of Pandit Shankar Ghosh and is one of the UK’s leading tabla players. He has accompanied many of India’s most prestigious artists.
Jack Jennings studied the sitar with Donough Sanfay, a disciple of Amarnath Mishra. Jack has been pioneering an approach to adapt Indian classical music to the electric guitar.
This Trio takes the audience on a dynamic and exciting journey through the world of Indian Classical Music. The spontaneous interaction and passion felt when they play together is truly compelling. The music they play is essentially very pure and in keeping with tradition, but the inclusion of the electric guitar creates a sense of openness to embrace new timbres and melodic nuances without compromising the original spirit and intensity of the music. This is a rare combination of instruments and Musicians from different backgrounds, embracing the music that brought them together.
Also performing tonight as a one off, we have the improv talents of Andrew Neil Hayes from Run Logan Run and Matt Brown from Dakhla Brass and Modulus III. A special performance not to be missed, combining saxophone and drums
DJ John Stapleton will be playing his usual eclectic mix of obscurities in the bar between set.
Jack Jennings is currently working on a crowdfunding project collaborating with guitar builder and designer Tom McAllister. They are developing a guitar specifically for playing Indian Classical Music. Taking inspiration from learning the sitar and with their experience from working with Indian musicians, they have come up with some innovative ideas.
