Very excited to have Los Angeles based composer Tashi Wada presents his new group featuring the amazing vocalist Julia Holter and fluid limbs and mind of percussionist Corey Fogel at the Microplex. They will be performing music from Wada's new album “Nue”, out on the ever excellent RVNG Intl label. Fans of artists such as Grouper, Peter Brodrick, Jon Hassell, Pauline Oliveros and Arthur Russell could be encouraged to attend this amazing show or anyone with a desire to hear music from the spheres, the sublime and the finely structured.
Contemporary music that envelopes minimalism trends with a sensory field of fragile, humane feelings and cinematic overtones. Of this world but beautifully different. Tashi is grounded in a belief that “music should be as direct as possible,” his compositions use apparently simple structures to generate rich and unanticipated perceptual effects.
In Japanese, ‘nue’ is a mythological chimera with the face of a monkey, the legs of a tiger, and the tail of a snake. In French, nue means naked—stripped of complexity, bare and exposed, but also raw and essential. This duality underlies “Nue.” Released as part of RVNG Intl’s FRKWYS series of intergenerational projects, this collaboration ranges from minimalist bagpipes to otherworldly vocals, creating, in Wada’s words, “a vision, an endless night of dreams, and a personal history of sorts, full of joys and demons.”
LUCY GOOCH
Using loop techniques, synthesizers and guitar, Bristol-based Lucy Gooch builds meditative music accompanied by sometimes-indecipherable vocals. Layers of heavily affected sound form an abstract world that is accented by moments of clarity. The result is music that is at once personal as it is universal.
