The Minutemen were one of the few '80s bands to carry on the integrity of punk, which, at the close of the '70s had become a narrowly defined musical genre that celebrated stupidity rather than creativity. Influenced by Captain Beefheart, The Stooges, The Germs, The Voidoids, Gang Of Four, Wire and The Pop Group, three working-class guys from San Pedro, after just one gig opening for Black Flag, were asked to make a record for SST, the rest being history.

”We Jam Econo” is Mike Watt’s D.I.Y. mantra that you can hear in a couple different Minutemen songs, referring to the band’s ethic of driving themselves, hauling their own equipment, and making music their own way. Through choice live footage and over 50 interviews with musicians/friends (including Henry Rollins, Flea and Thurston Moore) and journo's, director Irwin respectfully weaves an exhilarating, unlikely and ultimately tragic story.
