Bristol premiere of a new surf movie!
Share a dance on waves, inspirational art, photography, video, film and craftsmanship. Experience waters many forms, light across shade and shadow, magical places and the faces we find therein.
The hub tour is the culmination of over 18 months work by contributing surfers, artists and british movie maker, Christiaan Bailey.
The tour is a chance to inform and inspire those who aspire to and /or admire the elements of trim, poise and unbridled self expression, catalysed by the presence of waves.
Modern surfing is represented in the main by competitive tours such as the ASP and WCT, full of riches for riders but overun with rigorous structure and politics. surfing has not always been like this, and there are those, very talented surfers who have rejected the trappings of the mainstream and followed their own paths. They set the rules/bar and although the
opportunity for financial gain is far less, the opportunity for self
expression is huge.
Many of these surfers shape, and all ride equipment that few understand, let alone are able to surf. they use their boards as canvases, shaping, colouring, and glassing them in their own unique style, then as brushes across a wave face, drawing beautiful lines. they don't just cross step, they dance to the nose, they don't just hang ten, they hang heels, pull crowbars and liQuorice splits. they are amazingly talented and yet under represented.
The tour then is an opportunity for these surfers to gain more exposure, through their surfing in the movie 'the hub', art, photography created and inpired by them from N.Z., Australia, California and the UK. The tour offers a rare chance to experience their world, see it through their eyes and take alook at some of their inspirations and how, they have inspired others.
The tour contents includes:
'Onion City' a super 8mm film set in California: running time 20 mins
'The Hub' an hour long feature, documenting the various characters who live in and travel through noosa heads in Australia.( visiting Malibu and the North island of NZ)
A selection of artwork and old boards.
Cast and crew will be on hand to answer questions and Jon Kennedy will be providing some suitable tunes to accompany the evening.
