Ghengis Blues
Oct 14 / 8.30 / £4 for film and performance / £10 for workshop, film and performance /

Ghengis Blues captures the journey of a blind blues singer, driven by a sound so beautiful that it broke his heart, to a community wedged between Mongolia and Siberia, The Autonomous Republic of Tuva.

In 1984, Paul Pena, aka Earthquake, tuned into a Russian Radio station and heard the little known sound of Tuvan overtone and throatsinging, where the voice produces a normal note and a second resonant harmonic. 11 years later, this humble blues man entered the National Theatre of Tuva to perform his self-taught style of throatsinging.

Before the film, at 6.30pm, an overtoning workshop will be given by Juan Gabriel at the Pierian Centre, Portland Square. Following the film he will give an overtone and throatsinging performance.
